Handmade Felted Wool Rug Grey Natural

Product Description

This grey wool rug brings a soft, natural texture into any room without trying too hard. As one of our most popular wool rugs NZ-wide, it’s made from 100% wool, features a flat-weave construction, is handmade in India, and is finished in a Scandinavian style that suits both modern and relaxed homes.

It’s double-sided, so you get two rugs in one. Flip it when one side starts showing wear, or to switch up the look of a room. The flat weave also makes it easy to vacuum and simple to keep looking tidy day to day.

Available in four sizes, from 225x155cm right up to 400x300cm, so you can find the right fit whether it’s going under a coffee table or anchoring a whole living space. The grey natural tone works well as a base colour, easy to style with darker furniture or lighter, neutral pieces.

FAQs

Is a felted wool rug good for high-traffic areas like the lounge or hallway?

Yeah, it holds up well. Wool is naturally hard-wearing, and the flat weave construction means it won’t flatten or shed the way a plush pile rug might. It’s a solid pick for busy spaces like the lounge, hallway, or dining area.

Can I use this rug over underfloor heating?

Wool rugs are generally fine over underfloor heating since wool is a natural insulator and handles warmth well. Just keep the flat weave construction in mind; it won’t trap heat the way a thicker pile rug does, so you’ll still feel the warmth coming through.

Will the wool shed or leave fluff around the house?

Felted wool rugs shed far less than fluffy or shag-style rugs because the fibres are pressed together rather than loosely tufted. You might notice a small amount when it’s brand new, but it settles down quickly with normal use.

Is this rug suitable if someone in the house has wool sensitivities?

Since it’s 100% wool, anyone with a wool sensitivity or allergy should check with their GP before bringing it home. For most people, it’s totally fine, but it’s worth knowing exactly what you’re working with before you buy.

Can I place this rug in a sunny room without it fading?

Wool naturally resists fading better than synthetic fibres, but direct sun over a long period will still dull any rug eventually. If the room gets a lot of afternoon sun, rotating the rug every few months keeps the wear even and the colour looking fresh for longer.

Rug Care

Keeping it Clean
Rugs are not just beautiful additions to your home; they also endure the everyday hustle and bustle of foot traffic, spills, and dirt. Proper care and maintenance are crucial in preserving their beauty and extending their lifespan. Here are some essential rug care tips to keep your rugs looking fresh and vibrant for years to come.

Cleaning Advice
To protect the quality of your rug, we strongly recommend using a professional-grade cleaner such as Prefesol or seeking guidance from a rug-care specialist before attempting any cleaning yourself.

Please note that we cannot accept responsibility for any damage or changes to your rug caused by cleaning products or methods chosen by the customer.

Vacuuming

  • Canister vacuums without beater bars are the optimal type of vacuum to use on rugs.
  • Brooms and manual sweepers are also a gentle and effective way to clean rugs.
  • If you must use an upright vacuum, use the handheld attachment whenever possible.
  • Refrain from running the vacuum over the edges of the rug. Instead, use the handheld attachment or carefully place the vacuum on the rug.
  • If a rug is reversible, remember to vacuum both sides.
  • For hand-woven rugs, use extra caution when vacuuming, as the suction can pull the weave. Alternatively, you can take the rug outside and gently shake it out.

Sunlight Protection
While natural light can enhance the colors of your rug, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and degradation of fibers. Use curtains or blinds to block the sun during peak hours, or consider placing your rug in an area with more indirect light.

By taking these simple steps, you can protect your rugs from UV damage, ensuring they remain vibrant and beautiful for many years.

Rotate
It is highly recommended to rotate your rug 180 degrees every 3–6 months to balance appearance, minimize fading, distribute wear evenly, and protect it from direct sunlight.
