Our outdoor rugs NZ range is made from polypropylene and designed to work on decks and patios as well as inside the home, with rectangular and runner shapes in sizes from small to extra-large. Patterns lean towards geometric, trellis, and urban-style designs, such as the Terrace Geo, Terrace Fern Trellis, and Terrace Urban rugs, so the same look can carry from a covered entertaining area through to a hallway or kitchen.

Every rug in the range is suited to both indoor and outdoor use, and most also suit hallways and dining areas, so a rug is not limited to one spot in the home.

Where to Use Outdoor Rugs

Deck or patio. An outdoor rug under a dining setting or lounge group marks out the zone and takes the harshness off bare decking or pavers.

Back door and entry. A runner at the door between the garden and the house catches mud and wet footprints before they cross the floors.

Kitchen. The range is suited to kitchens, where a runner along the bench handles splashes and spills.

How to Care for Your Outdoor Rug

Sweep or vacuum weekly. Removing grit and pollen before it works into the weave keeps the pattern looking sharp.

Rinse with a garden hose when it needs more. A gentle rinse with mild detergent clears ground-in dirt, and the rug should dry fully before it goes back down.

Rotate every couple of months. Turning the rug stops one side from taking all the sun and foot traffic.

Brush off leaves and debris after storms. Left sitting on the weave, they stain the surface and hold dampness against it.

FAQ

Can an outdoor rug damage or stain a timber deck?
It can if moisture gets trapped. Water sitting between the rug and the boards can darken the timber and encourage mould or algae, especially on decks that stay shaded. Lifting the rug every few weeks so the boards can dry out prevents most problems.

Will wind lift or blow around an outdoor rug on an exposed deck?
It can, because polypropylene is lightweight and a strong coastal gust can catch an edge and fold it over. Placing the rug under the legs of a dining or lounge setting, adding a rug grip cut to size, or weighting the corners keeps it flat.

How does strong NZ sun affect an outdoor rug over time?
Synthetic fibres typically hold their colour better than wool, but sustained UV exposure will gradually soften colour over several summers, usually on the most exposed edge first. Rotating the rug each season and shading it with a pergola, umbrella or awning slows this down.

Is it safe to put an outdoor rug near a BBQ or fire pit?
Keep it well back. Polypropylene is a plastic that melts rather than chars, so a stray ember, hot ash, or dripping fat can leave a permanent melted spot. Leave a clear gap around the cooking area, or put a heat-proof mat underneath it.

Can I move the same rug between the deck and the hallway?
Yes, since the range suits both indoor and outdoor spaces. Before bringing a rug inside, shake it out and check the underside for debris and dampness, so you don't carry grit or moisture onto the floors.
