Description
This black jute rug is made from 100% eco-friendly jute, hand-braided in India to create natural texture and organic pattern across the whole piece. Unlike a machine-made rug, no two are quite identical, which gives it a genuine handcrafted character rather than a uniform, mass-produced look.
It's double-sided, so you're effectively getting two rugs in one. Flip it over when one side starts to wear or to switch up the pattern facing up, and it also makes vacuuming both sides straightforward to keep it looking fresh. At an 8mm pile height, it sits low and flat, which suits high-traffic areas like hallways, entryways, and living rooms.
Black works well here as a grounding, versatile colour that pairs easily with almost any existing furniture or flooring, while the natural jute texture keeps it from feeling too stark or flat. It's available across a range of sizes, from smaller runners through to a large 400x300cm, plus dedicated runner sizes for hallways.
A couple of things to keep in mind before you order. Colours can look slightly different depending on your screen, and we'd recommend an anti-slip pad underneath, like Supa Rug Grip, to help keep it in place. This item can only be delivered to a street address, not a PO box.

FAQs
Is jute a durable material for a rug I'll walk on every day?
Yes, jute is a naturally strong, hard-wearing fibre, which is part of why it's such a popular choice for high-traffic areas like hallways and entryways. With regular care, a hand-braided jute rug like this one holds up well to daily use.
Will a jute rug feel rough or scratchy underfoot?
Jute has a bit more texture than a soft wool or synthetic pile, so it does feel firmer underfoot, though it softens somewhat with use over time. If you want something plush to walk on barefoot, it's worth pairing this in areas where footwear is more common, like hallways or entryways.
Can I use this rug in a room that gets a lot of moisture, like a bathroom?
Jute isn't the best choice for consistently damp or humid areas, since natural fibres like this can be more prone to moisture damage over time. It's better suited to dry living spaces such as hallways, living rooms, and bedrooms.
How do I get the double-sided feature working for me long term?
Simply flip the rug over every so often, especially in high-traffic areas, so wear gets distributed across both sides rather than concentrated on one. It's an easy way to extend the useful life of the rug without any extra products or cleaning steps.
Will the natural colour variation mean my rug looks different from the product photos?
Some variation in tone and texture is normal with any natural jute rug, since it's a raw material rather than a synthetic, uniform fibre. The overall black colourway and pattern will match, but expect small, natural differences that are part of buying a genuine jute piece.
Rug Care
Keeping it Clean
Rugs do more than add style to a room. They deal with daily foot traffic, spills, and dirt, so proper care goes a long way in keeping them looking their best for years to come. Here are a few essential tips to help.
Cleaning Advice
To protect the quality of your rug, we recommend using a professional-grade cleaner such as Prefesol, or getting guidance from a rug care specialist before attempting any cleaning yourself. Please note we can't accept responsibility for any damage or changes to your rug caused by cleaning products or methods chosen by the customer.
Vacuuming
Canister vacuums without a beater bar are the best option for cleaning rugs. Brooms and manual sweepers also work well as a gentle alternative. If you only have an upright vacuum, use the handheld attachment where possible and avoid running it directly over the rug's edges. If your rug is reversible, remember to vacuum both sides.
For hand-woven rugs, take extra care when vacuuming, as the suction can pull at the weave. Taking the rug outside and shaking it out is a safer option for these.
Sunlight Protection
Natural light can bring out the colours in a rug, but too much direct sunlight over time can cause fading and weaken the fibres. Using curtains or blinds during peak sun hours, or placing the rug in an area with more indirect light, helps protect it from UV damage and keeps it looking vibrant for longer.
Rotate
We recommend rotating your rug 180 degrees every three to six months. This helps balance out fading, distributes wear evenly, and reduces the impact of direct sunlight on any one section.
IMPORTANT TIP: We recommend that an anti-slip pad such as Supa Rug Grip be used underneath rugs to prevent slippage between the rug and the surface it is placed on.
Please Note: This item cannot be delivered to a PO Box, only to a street address.

Rug Care
Keeping it Clean
Rugs are not just beautiful additions to your home; they also endure the everyday hustle and bustle of foot traffic, spills, and dirt. Proper care and maintenance are crucial in preserving their beauty and extending their lifespan. Here are some essential rug care tips to keep your rugs looking fresh and vibrant for years to come.
Cleaning Advice
To protect the quality of your rug, we strongly recommend using a professional-grade cleaner such as Prefesol or seeking guidance from a rug-care specialist before attempting any cleaning yourself.
Please note that we cannot accept responsibility for any damage or changes to your rug caused by cleaning products or methods chosen by the customer.
Vacuuming
- Canister vacuums without beater bars are the optimal type of vacuum to use on rugs.
- Brooms and manual sweepers are also a gentle and effective way to clean rugs.
- If you must use an upright vacuum, use the handheld attachment whenever possible.
- Refrain from running the vacuum over the edges of the rug. Instead, use the handheld attachment or carefully place the vacuum on the rug.
- If a rug is reversible, remember to vacuum both sides.
- For hand-woven rugs, use extra caution when vacuuming, as the suction can pull the weave. Alternatively, you can take the rug outside and gently shake it out.
Sunlight Protection
While natural light can enhance the colors of your rug, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading and degradation of fibers. Use curtains or blinds to block the sun during peak hours, or consider placing your rug in an area with more indirect light.
By taking these simple steps, you can protect your rugs from UV damage, ensuring they remain vibrant and beautiful for many years.
Rotate
It is highly recommended to rotate your rug 180 degrees every 3–6 months to balance appearance, minimize fading, distribute wear evenly, and protect it from direct sunlight.
