Wedgwood rugs bring the design heritage of the British pottery house into the home through wool and viscose weaves, with patterns such as Paeonia, Waterlily, and Wild Strawberry reflecting a botanical influence. The collection includes rectangular and round shapes in sizes from small to extra-large, so a single pattern can be matched to a compact bedroom or an open living area.
Wedgwood is a name recognised in the British pottery industry for timeless, innovative designs, and the rugs carry that approach into the home. Wool gives the pile its resilience, while viscose adds a soft sheen that catches the light across the pattern.
Our Rug Size Guide lists recommended room sizes, furniture layouts, and common rug dimensions to help you choose, and each product page shows exact measurements to compare against your floor area before you order.
You can see and feel our rugs in person at our showroom at 1 Robert Street, Ellerslie, Auckland, and it is worth calling ahead on 09 579 6469 to check which Wedgwood designs are on display.
Wedgwood Rugs Placements
Living room. A large Wedgwood rug under the main seating area works best as the pattern focal point of the room, with sofas and curtains kept plain so the design isn't competing with anything else.
Bedroom. Lower foot traffic makes the bedroom a good match for the soft sheen of viscose, and a size that extends well past both sides of the bed keeps the pattern visible once the furniture is in place.
Round designs. The round shapes suit an entrance hall or a reading corner, where a rectangle would leave dead corners.
How to Care for Your Wedgwood Rug
Vacuum weekly in the direction of the pile. An upholstery or soft-brush head lifts dust gently without roughing up the fibres.
Rotate every few months. Turning the rug spreads wear evenly and stops one end taking all the light from a window, which can fade dyes over time.
Lift furniture feet off the pile. Cups or wide felt pads under heavy legs spread the load, and shifting the furniture slightly every few weeks stops permanent dents from forming.
Fit a quality underlay. It stops the rug creeping on hard floors and cushions the pile against daily foot traffic.
FAQ
Why do some areas of my rug look lighter or darker depending on where I stand?
Wool and viscose pile reflects light differently depending on which way the fibres lean, so foot traffic, furniture and vacuuming can leave patches that look lighter or darker from one angle and disappear from another. This is pile shading, a normal trait of the material rather than fading, damage or a manufacturing fault.
What should I do straight away if I spill something on a wool and viscose rug?
Press a clean, dry white cloth onto the spill to lift as much liquid as possible, working from the edge inward. Avoid rubbing and avoid adding water, because viscose weakens when wet and can dry with a yellowish ring that is very difficult to remove.
Can a Wedgwood rug go under a dining table?
It can, but wool and viscose suit living rooms and bedrooms better, since food spills are hard to treat on viscose and chairs dragged back and forth crush the pile. If you do choose a dining area, pick a size that keeps every chair on the rug when it is pulled out, so the legs never catch on the edge.
Can I use a robot vacuum on a Wedgwood rug?
Many robot vacuums rely on a spinning brush roll that can pull at wool and viscose fibres and leave the pile looking fuzzy. If your model lets you switch the brush off or run suction only, that setting is far kinder to the rug, and otherwise an upright with the brush bar off or a handheld vacuum is the safer choice.
How often should a Wedgwood rug be professionally cleaned?
Every one to two years suits most homes, depending on foot traffic. Before booking, confirm that the cleaner has experience with viscose, since some wet-cleaning methods used on wool can damage it, and ask what method they plan to use on this rug.
